This is not just a quilt it’s a practice in visibility, in connection, and in co-creation. It reminds us that belonging doesn’t happen by accident. It’s something we piece together intentionally, and together.
The quilt grows with every contribution. Whether it’s a word, a drawing, a memory, or a dream, each addition is a declaration: I am here. You are seen. We are in this together.
We created The Welcome Quilt to mark beginnings not just the start of a semester or a new role, but the start of a deeper kind of presence. One where people are not just included, but invited. Not just tolerated, but cherished.
In a campus community as diverse and dynamic as UConn, The Welcome Quilt holds space for difference and celebrates common ground. It asks us to consider: What does welcome feel like in your body? What would it look like in your community? What would it mean to offer it more freely?
